Upcoming Event: #Cabacon Day - 8/30/2013

What do you get when you combine #CabernetDay (August 29th) and International #BaconDay (August 31st)? BAM, it’s #CABACON! This new holiday is sandwiched in between these two established days, and this year will happen on Friday, August 30th.  The brilliant marketing folks at BevMo (@BevMo) came up with this amazing combination to pair some quality Cabernet Sauvignons with bacon flavored items that they carry. “Whaaaat, that’s crazy!” you may be thinking (or rather you may have actually said that out loud…), but we’re not talking about pairing ACTUAL bacon with Cabernet (cause that would be a little weird). We’re talking about pairing some food items that you commonly see paired with wines that happen to have a bacon flavor to them. Cheese and chocolate people, two of life’s great treasures! The good people of BevMo were kind enough to send over a #Cabacon Day kit for me so that I can participate in this unique tasting pairing and write about it for all you fine people (People? Person? How many people actually read this?). So without further ado, I give you the #Cabacon Day contenders…

All the Happenings: Upcoming Events - Fall 2013

Well the fall “wine season” is upon us and you know what that means? Well it’s harvest time for starters, those 2013 grapes are ripening up and about to start making their way toward wineries all over the state. I hear that a record harvest could be on the horizon for 2013! That means more wine and less sell-outs from your favorite winery when it comes time for the 2013 wines to hit the shelf! The fall season also brings a whole slew of events, both wine and beer related (and don’t forget our old pal cider!) worthy of mentioning. So mark your calendars and get your tickets, these events are sure to sell out.

RELISH in American favorites: burgers, beer and fried goodness

Admittedly I am quite behind on this post, but better late than never!

RELISH a burger bistro located in the Westin in downtown Seattle offers burgers with the local flair you expect in a Seattle restaurant.  While they aren't creating oddities in the burger world the burgers I tried with Taryn and a couple of our friends were all well crafted and delicious; in a word, classic.  My only complaint, the shredded lettuce; swap that out for some nice leaf lettuce or a rip off a head of ice burg and we're talking!

Upcoming Event: 5th Annual WSU Wine Symposium - 7/25/13 - Palace Ballroom - Seattle

Tis the season for wine and COUGS! Every year, I help organize the Washington State University Wine Symposium, put on through the King County Cougs chapter of the WSU Alumni Association. We're back this year on July 25th and in the same venue, Tom Douglas' Palace Ballroom, which was an excellent space for our event last year. I really love this event because it not only combines two of my passions (wine and WSU), it also showcases some of the amazing talent that produces wine in our great state. Cougs love supporting other Cougs and this is one of my favorite ways to make that happen on an annual basis.

The details:

The What: The 5th Annual WSU Wine Symposium
The When: Thursday, July 25th, 2013, 7-10pm
The Where: Palace Ballroom - 2100 5th Ave, Seattle, WA 98121
The Who: WSU owned or affiliated wineries pouring the goods for alumni & other wine lovers
The Why: Because Cougs love Cougs. Enough said. Also, we love wine.

This year's winery line-up is sure to please, with some familiar faces from past years back at it again (we just can't get enough of them!) and some new wineries joining the line-up. We will be showcasing 8-10 Cougar affiliated wineries at this year's event, as well as some other Cougar vendors that will be on hand to sell their goods onsite as well.

As is the case every year, this event WILL SELL OUT. While we are a fun and delightful bunch, the Cougs are year after year proving to be procrastinators as well. Do yourself a favor and don't be the one emailing me asking why you can't get a ticket 2 days before because it's sold out. Visit the registration page now and secure your spot at the Coug wine event of the summer! Cheers and GO COUGS!
