Upcoming Event: Taste Washington - Seattle, WA

Coming up in less than just one week is the grand daddy of them all (when it comes to wine events). This year’s Taste Washington (@TasteWashington) will be held Saturday and Sunday, March 26th and 27th, with the Seminars being held at Bell Harbor International Conference Center and the Grand Taste at Qwest Field Event Center. This continues to be THE wine event of the year, with the Grand Taste featuring more than 200 wineries, much more than any other wine event in the state.

One of the more little known aspects of Taste Washington is the Seminars. Most people assume that Taste Washington is just that: a tasting event. However, on Saturday the 26th, there are 8 different sessions where you can swirl, sip, spit, and LEARN about wine, winemakers and the Washington wine scene in general. This year’s Seminars include the following topics:

AM Sessions:

A Sort of Homecoming:
Food and Wine Pairing with Michael Mina

Common Ground:
A Seven Hills Vineyard Investigation

Ladies First:
Women In Washington Wine

Washington’s Emerging Varieties:
Grenache Panache
Presented by Seattle Magazine

PM Sessions:

In Search Of:
Washington’s Singular Style

Washington State Syrah:
Yes, We Can!

What’s the Point(s)?
Rating Washington State Wines

With A Rebel Yell:
Washington’s Rock-n-Roll Winemakers

There are such a broad range of topics this year, and if you check out the link to the Seminars that I included above, you’ll see a brief description of each one. One of my favorite parts about BLEND Seattle was the seminars (which I wrote about here), and after that experience I will definitely try to attend one of the Taste Washington seminars as well. If you consider yourself a wine lover (and really, who doesn’t?), why not expand on that with some wine education as well? Yes, there is wine tasting in these sessions as well, but the opportunity to truly understand what it is you are tasting is one of a kind. Make sure to get tickets early for the seminars, they are likely to sell out this week!

Sunday the 27th brings us the Grand Tasting, where those 200 wineries I previously mentioned will be in attendance. In addition to that (because yes, wine does go wonderfully with food!) there will also be 60 Seattle area restaurants represented at Taste Washington, each providing a small bite to pair with your wine. As you can probably imagine, there is a LOT of wine at this event. Plan it out, peruse the list provided of wineries on the website and pick a few you know 100% that you are interested in trying. While at the event, ask others there for their favorites that they have already tried. And do not be afraid to spit or take only a small sip from your pour and dump the rest in one of the buckets provided on every table. With so much to try at Taste Washington, you have to strategize on how to do it efficiently and safely!

Taste Washington is just 5 short days away, so if you haven’t already obtained tickets to the Seminars or the Grand Taste, do it through SOON! For tickets for the Seminars, click here. For tickets to the Grand Taste, visit Ticketmaster here. Are you on twitter? Use the hashtag #TasteWA when tweeting from the event, and to see what other people are saying also! I look forward to another unforgettable Taste Washington this year, and I hope to see you there too!
